Jingle Bells Redux

Breaking every law
The mobs came asking blood
O'er the fields we ran
And very few got away
The police stood and watched
While Bajrang Dalis torched
Our houses by the night
And people by the day

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
It's no fun to be a minority
In Orissa today
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
All we want is the Sangh Parivar
Would let us live and pray

Not so long ago
We thought we would be fine
But soon these Sanghi goons
Came and stole the shine
The plot was mean and dark
A swamiji was shot
We were blamed for it
And a massacre we got

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
It's no fun to be a minority
In Orissa today
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
All we want is the government
To ensure some fair play

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what future do we have
In Orissa today
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
We will fight and we will win
And keep the fascists AWAY!!

The Background: I don't know how many of you know about the Khandamal violence. Don't get me wrong I do not think that you are ignorant, but the incidents got very little highlight in the media. Well like the poem says a swamiji was shot and then Christians, mostly dalits who got converted were attacked on the Christmas eve 2008. Ever since violence has been going on. There has been immense loss of human lives and systematic destruction of Christian owned property. I am not putting in facts and figures here, you can checked http://blog.orissaconcerns.net/about/ for more detailed information. Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), the previous organization I worked for is heavily involved in providing legal aid to the victims. Some of my colleagues who had gone visiting the Khandamal district of Orissa have very grim stories to tell.
My uncle was in Bhadrak at that time, he said in his neighbourhood there was a Carmel Convent School for Girls which has been giving quality education to girls for the last hundred years or more so. Since that was the only standard school for girls, girls from neighbouring areas used to attend it. One night the mob came and torched the school and now it is no more than a burnt down building.
Has the Sangh Parivar ever done anything constructive than brainwash ignorant fools? I think as moderate Hindus time has come for us to seriously protest against these kinds of fundamentalist cruelty. Though Khandamal never got that kind of coverage, it is no less heinous than the Gujrat riots.
With the politicians, terrorists and fundamentalists working in tandem to destroy the country, future seems rather bleak, even to a die hard optimist like me!

  1. I never understand how any religious person can wage a war or start a fight in the name of his or her religion. As far as I understand, every single religion in the world teaches tolerance, peace and understanding. It is so unreligious to fight.

  2. Khandmal is actually Kandhmal.

The Christian population grew 66% in a decade.

The Sangh parivaar has been, amongst other things, running 26,000 schools in tribal areas.

Freedom to practice and preach religion does not mean freedom to voilate laws and convert by money.

Do you liberal, bleeding heart types ever write about murder and rape of Hindu minorities in Tripura and Nagaland.

Or insult to our gods in Mangalore ?

Or temples being broken in Goa, Kashmir and Bangladesh.

I guess for you a life of Hindu is worse than that of a dog.

    Traitors.

CPI supported China in 1962. That is what Left / Liberals are all about.

Human rights for terrorists. None for victims.

  3. mr bharat sharma,

thanks for the spell check...i admit i dont do any spelling or grammatical edit before posting....

well what is it that you are trying to say? that just because conversion is high in the region, killing of innocent people is justified? have you ever in your true blue sangh parivar heart thought why is it that these poor illeterate people turn christians? for someone who doesnt get two meals to eat, food provided by the christians is way more necessarty than ram katha....maybe sangh parivar instead of lashing out, should do some social work for a change...
each one is entitled to his/her view....but please dont go guessing things where you are not entitled...you seem to be a practising hindu, so am i...where we differ is that you subscribe to killings and violence while i do not, uner any circumstances.
hinduism is not a religion, it is a way of life, civilisations old, hindusim has always been strong enough to withstand all kinds of violence and pillage, that was its strong point...the only religion which did not practice holocaust....but now thanks to the likes of you, likes of me do not have claim to such peaceful existence....
i am the sort of hindu who is not insecure about diversity, i am friends with christians and muslims and know how to live together... i am conformatable with my spcae in this country...i am not xenophobic, nor am i violent...since i am a citizen of this country as much as your are, it is my right to protest at the wrongs,as for the communist bit, well mr bharat just cos i am a bong you assume i am a socialist/communist....how cliche...grow up seriosuly and if possible stop the country from dissolving that is if you have that much sensitivity in your punny sangh parivar washed brain left....people like you are equally horrifying like those terrorists...both have surrendered your brains to those who maniputale you for their own gains...at least i am a free spirit capable of having my own thoughts....
    your non communist, hindu sister

  4. mr. bharat,

    Hi

I completely agree with suchi's response to your letter and surely u should do some introspection before commenting on anyone’s view on human rights issue.

She has beautifully tried to explain the situation of Khandamal which you and me sitting in our respective cities will not be aware of or may be just aware about the issues through media reports which I don’t know how much we can trust on as each news channel is owned by different political party.

I completely agree and think that Bajrang Dal / RSS may be running thousands of schools in tribal areas but who knows what they are teaching in those schools.

    Human rights are for all.

  6. i like Bharat Sharma, he seems just the kind of person we need to ensure that corruption, unethical and unlawful practices, casteist violence, religious discrimination...in short there is a lot of work for him and his ilk to do...

Am waiting for you to start up the cleaning and all of us will be with you, right, left, centre, secular and religious....after all we have only one India...right? Jerome

  7. Mr. Bharat Sharma,

You are such a boring, mindless prototype that I feel lethargic to even type this response. I am almost sure that you have copied your text from some email chain that has been roaming around in the internet for so long that we press 'Delete' even without opening it when it lands in our inbox. Unless you do a serious revision of your outlook towards situations around you, and your fellow countrymen like us, I am sure soon you will be regarded as a waste of space.

The kind of socio-religious issues the blog-owner discussed about is way too complicated. There are always multiple angles to such issues and the blog owner had pointed out to one of them. Likewise, there will be othe facets. Those who of us have worked hands-on in the social sector at the grass root know how complicted social issues are and how dangerous to handle. If not anything else, our experience have taught us NOT TO PASS VALUE JUDGEMENTS. Everybody is correct from a certain point of view, and before anything, try to respect that. A visit to your profile shows that you are that typical urban brat with a stellar education from a premiere institute, fiegning and barking cultural and moral superlativeness from the safety of your suit-clad society. The people who are writing here have dirtied their hands in social activism and they know what they are talking about. If you can, do, otherwise, SHUT UP!

    Sapphire.

  8. Amazing that all the bleeding heart responses were high on rhetoric and low on facts.

And the last resort of people who have run out of arguements / facts to counter - heap abuse on other / ask them to shut up / pass personal comments.

Pity, not one answered about questions I raised about murder and rape of Hindus.

Suchismita assumes that I accuse her of being a communist since she is a bong.

Well nothing of sorts, it is her assumption. I always club left/liberals as two sides of one coin. That is bong or not is irrelevant.

Essentially our Bhaarat Varsha is facing 4 threats:

    a) Christist Missionaries - I know there are those who do social service - typically Catholics and there are others who are out to convert - typically 7th Day Adventists and Baptists.

    b) Islamic Jehadis - Goes without saying an average Muslim is NOT a part of this. I got number of Muslims in my team. Their concerns are what your and mine are - work / house / career / taxes whatever.

    c) Anglos / psuedo Hindu - Rootless products of Macalauy's education - with no love for nation - typically Barkha Datt / Rajdeep Sardesai types

    d) Left / Liberals / Communists -
This is a wide spectrum that ranges from CPI (ML) end of spectrum who are waging war against the Indian state with a view to weaken the country to CPI types who support Chinese aggression in 1962 and were on payroll of British during 1942 Quit India and call Major Unnikrishnan as dog to Wagah-candle-lighter types to Jhola type NGO types.

Sapphire has given global gyaan with out commenting anything about Hindus murdered and raped in Kashmir and North East and Bangladesh.

In north east, in Nagaland and Mizoram, the minority Buddist / Hindu Reang community has been made refugees by Christians.

The Baptist church openly supports TNV insurgents in Tripura who massacred 25 people during Durga puja.

Why I have never ever heard / read any bleeding heart left / liberal / jhola talk about it.

The fact of the matter is that Changing Religion very often changes Nationality and Loyalties.

Why does Missionaries of Charity get its school kids to parade on roads in protest when India tested nuclear during Vajapayee govt. ?

I think Sapphire is so peeved because I went to IIT where he / others writing here most probably tried and failed. Just to rub it in, I was an NTS scholar and a 0.1% Merit certificate student in Maths at CBSE Board exams.

You know you need brains and you got to really slog it out.

Unlike elections in West Bengal, the JEE entrace exam is not fixed by Comrades.

It is Difficult buddy and I understand jealousy.

Working in Copenhagen and dreaming laal salaam.
    Tch Tch.

And I am proud to run my business where number of workers get to do useful work and a chance to move up in life.

We adhere to govt norms, pay more that govt. regulations and invest in safety / training / developing their skills. I pay my guy to help Them invest THEIR money (not in stocks but Post Office schemes).

We run a scholarship scheme for our employee's kids. It is my promise to all employees that no meritorious child (theirs/those around) will lose out an educational opportunity because of lack of money.

This is not charity, but enlightened self interest but the net net the workers benefit.

They are part of the team.

More than 80% of our workers are tribals. So I know the situation on ground.

I have visited Ekal Vidyalayas in tribal areas and stayed there so spare me gyaan about me coming from ivory tower and being an urban brat.

This is better than hot air and some bhaashans provided by you Jhola Chaaps.

And you know, I earn more in a month than what most of you guys do in a year and in some cases a decade. (this is to rub it in).

And we pay more taxes in a year than you would perhaps pay in lifetime - and thus contribute to nation building - you know all those friendly govt. doles for your conferences come partly from taxes that I paid.

I know some of it goes to support you left/liberals in JNU and elsewhere, but that's part of life.

My two cents of advice - Try to create something worthwhile. It is not so easy.

You bleeding heart liberals have only learnt entitlement and sloganeering.

Learn responsibility and hard work for a change.

And why not try to creat 26,000 schools on the ground. Our goal is 100,000 schools on ground by 2011.

Someone casted aspersions on what do the schools teach.

I invite you to come and visit some schools. If you come with open mind, I promise you will be pleasantly surprised.

And when you meet the kids for whom the "school" - is a tree shade, believe me it is a very humbling experience.

So, why don't you guys - instead of cribbing and ranting - too open schools on the ground. Good for kids - there is so much work that needs to be done.

  9. It's interesting to see "conservatives" like Bharat who would rather burn Christians to the ground than actually help the impoverished people without thinking why did people from other religion take care of "our hindus" in the first place? Maybe because the hindu leaders where busy being hypocrites. Or maybe because if these poor people get educated they will cathc the lies of these so called leaders working towards a hindu bharat.

    ReplyDelete
  10. i shudder to think what you teach in those schools of yours mr bharat varsha.

well kudos on your earning so much,. ohhhh am so jealous. growing green on this last day of the year!

seems like with your enormous philanthropic heart you have created a utopia with the people who are lucky enough to come under your benevolent umbrella.

    well well well...

the points you raised about the hindus being masaccared, if you kindly look though this space, i write about which ever incident touches my heart...be it bombings in delhi or the kandamal incidents, if ever i find something i feel the need to write about i defninitely will.

but unlike you i refuse to condone the killing of innocent christians, just cos in some part of the country hindus had been murnedered. if your heart bleeds this much for those innocents, make sure there is judicial process happening, rather than indulging in revenge killing...

what is this jhola thingy? stop being so patronising.

where all of us defer from you is that for us all human beings are human beings and their lives and dignity should be protected while for you only hindus are human beings.

Why does Missionaries of Charity get its school kids to parade on roads in protest when India tested nuclear during Vajapayee govt. ?

well anti nuclear weapons campaing is a huge campaing, transcending all national borders, seems like iit has not taught you everything. this campaign has nothing to do with the present govenrment in power, these people are essentially figthing for peace and not being anti-national.

get out of this conspiracy mode, only people who are very insecure duffer from this. you mr sharma with your tremendous talent which results in making lesser mortals jealous, should not be so insecure.

as for the tribals, well do you know that the tribals have their own religion. i have met tribals who claim that they are both fed up with the christian missionaries and the sangh parivar guys. both are intent on cenversion, but the tribals say that we have never been hindus to begin with. you seem the kind of man who would forcibly convernt the tribals beofre giving them jobs in your factory.

you have also not countered any of my arguements!

so do you agree that you are xenophobic? since you are so educated i am sure you know the meaning of xenophobia.

whatever happened to the vision of a modern and secular india?

for me i prefer india much more than bharat varsha or hindusthan. call me macauly bred, but then so are you mr sharma. otherwise you would not have been able to write so beautifully in english!

it is a pitty you are so brilliant, know your maths and physics so well (well enough to get into iit), yet are so brain washed. it is people like you who planned the gujrat massacre. god knows what all ruthlessness you have planned up your sleeve, all in the name of hinduism that is the sad part.

anyways this is my personal spcae, i do not want to get into this mud throwing here. you be happy in your world and let me be in mine.

my humble suggestion, in this new year get a slightly broader perspective.

  11. Mr. Bharat, I feel sorry for you. All that education going down the drain. I feel sorry for myself too that I belong to the human race of which you are part. There are members of my family & some very dear friends, who have passed through the hallowed portals of the Institute you went to; I am sure they will hang their heads in shame at your arrogance.

My apologies to you Suchi for using your space to say this despite the fact that you put a full stop to this mud slinging. Know that this is not out of disrespect for your wishes but that of the love, affection and respect I have for you. Promise not to be provoked in this space by this man again.
