Lets Celebrate International Women's Day By:
Being who we are,
Being who we are,
Living a dignified life, free from the fear of persecution & violence,
Not having to bow down to anything or anyone,
Enjoying the freedom of expression and the right to practice/not practice religion,
Making decisions about our own lives and bodies,
Controlling our own properties and incomes,
Having the strength to walk out of abusive relationships,
Reaching for the stars and helping each other get there!

P.S. Found the quote in the photograph in Facebook, could not trace the author, loved it and wanted to share it with you.
P.P.S. Had to draw a sari clad woman flying on a broomstick, I am no artist as my cartoon shows clearly. This is just for fun!
P.P.P.S. Most comrades (men) understand the need for this day to spread awareness on women's issues. We women salute you and welcome you in our struggle. We dearly need your support.
P.P.P.P.S. The leftover men out there, yes you should also have a men's day (why don't you get organised and start something?), yes we know there are some women out there who twist the laws to their own advantages. Your brother's friend's uncle's distant cousin's friend's friend has had a bad experience. We empathise. Now start counting how many women you know who have had horrible experiences. Give us a break, will ya? You men have been making, breaking, twisting laws for centuries and then a couple of progressive laws like the Domestic Violence Act in India and the divorce laws in the West come (and not even implemented properly) and you men cannot stop cribbing! And you say we women are cry babies....
P.P.P.P.P.S. Lets spread the word, share this far and wide please!
Now who has the heart
ReplyDeleteto break that broom?

ReplyDeleteHappy Women's Day!!!
Well said Samyyr :-)
Deletehey Suchi,
ReplyDeleteno offense but don't you think one should celebrate Women's Day by mentioning about the feats women has achieved in various fields instead of writing about how men think about women?
men's judgement or way of thinking about women is not the only criteria to prove women's credibility to the world...gone are the days when women was compared in this male dominated society and rarely got a chance to stand tall and equal. that's past now.
now's the age when women is exceeding in all fields compared to men and there's no looking back.
once again, apologies if i meant anything wrong in this comment.
wish you and all the beautiful ladies out there, a happy women's day celebrations !
btw, you've been tagged:

rahul
Hey Arjun, Thanks for the tag :-)
ReplyDeleteOf course I agree with you that one should concentrate on the positive side...we all know what we have achieved...my point is not to undermine those achievements but to point out what all are still wrong. Frankly Arjun most of women's problems are men related, however much we try it would be difficult to separate the two. Also I wrote this for us, general women/am aurat rather than celebrating/venerating women achievers like Indira Gandhi, P.T. Usha, Kalpana Chawla et al...for the successful the accolades are always there, for the general it is not so... true women are going paces, but the deep seated social norms/perceptions are taking their own sweet times to change...also I talked about men's perceptions in the P.S. section, not in how we should be celebrating...like say celebrate women's day by shooting 10 men...:-)
being women itself is a success much much bigger than any materialistic accolades or fame or recognition (all this is secondary!)
DeleteSuchi, name's Rahul .. nevermind!
:-)
take care
rahul
Hey I am so sorry Rahul...I apologise...you name was staring at me and yet I got it wrong...really really sorry...no excuse is enough...of course being a woman or man, as long as you are a decent human being is a success in itself...but this day is to create awareness on women's issues, tell women who have been told for ages that they are not worthy, that they are worthy...for fighting for rights which have been denied etc etc...
